This activity can be played anytime and anywhere with no preparation required and is not only a fun way to get better acquainted, but it will help underline the relationship and tie between the two of you no matter how long a child is in your care.

Activity

To begin, ask your child to think of three specific things: something specific about themselves (that they’d like you to know), something that they’d like to know about you, and something that they’d look forward to doing together. As they think about those three things, share that you’ll think of the same to share, too. After allowing a few quiet moments of think time, ask your child if they’d like to go first or if you should.

Then, follow your child’s lead and take turns sharing those three specific things aloud. Afterward, thank your child for sharing and expressing genuine excitement over getting to know them better. Explain, too, that God puts people in our lives at specific times for special purposes, and that God has the two of you together right now for a very special purpose, too.

Point out that you know this because God’s Word, the Bible, tells us that God doesn’t want us to live life alone. God wants us to share our lives — and our time — with others. End the activity by explaining how grateful you are to be able to spend time with him or her, and how much you’re looking forward to getting to know them even better.

After completing this activity, read through the following verse and prayer with your child.

Verse

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.

Ecclesiastes 4:9 (NLT)

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for not leaving us to live life alone. Thank You for being in our hearts and for the many helpers You put in our lives.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

Three young kids playing tug-of-war in a park

Pile of Purpose

Just like adults, children wear many hats and fill various roles. This can be understandably exhausting and intimidating for anyone, but especially so for children. Help your child grow in their confidence and skill sets by playing a quick game using different action figures, dolls, toy cars, or stuffed animals.
