Does it look a tornado has torn through your child’s room and/or belongings? Use this as an opportunity to talk about how Jesus can help calm the storms inside each of us, too.

Activity

Make cleaning up a game to enjoy together. Scurry around the room to gather and clean up everything as quickly as you can. Point out how much more you can get done when you work together.

Afterward, thank your child for his or her help and share that Jesus can do this for us, too. Sometimes it can feel like there’s a tornado of hurt, sadness, and confusion going on inside of us.

Sometimes it can even make us feel physically sick. But we can ask Jesus to help us. This doesn’t mean everything magically goes away. But He can provide the comfort and peace we need when we need it most.

After completing this activity, read through the following verse and prayer with your child.

Verse

I am leaving you with a gift — peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.
So don’t be troubled or afraid.

John 14:27 (NLT)

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Our world and our hearts can be filled with so much pain and hurt. Please fill us with Your peace. Heal our hearts with Your perfect love.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
